“This is one of the gems of the Quad Cities, I've been training here off and on for over a decade and I absolutely love it. A clean family environment, Travis is an amazing coach and resource of marital arts information that's been in his family for generations. You won't find a more welcoming place to sharpen your skills or just get in shape. Highly recommend 10/10”

“I recently joined Nick Tarpein's Martial Arts, and I must say, it's one of the best decisions I've made for my fitness journey. This gym is absolutely amazing, and I give it a 5-star rating without hesitation.
Firstly, the instructor Travis Tarpein is top-notch. He has years of experience and is very patient with all of his students, regardless of their skill level. He takes the time to explain each technique in detail and ensures that everyone is comfortable before moving on to the next one. I've learned so much from him already, and I'm excited to continue to grow under his guidance.
Secondly, my classmates are awesome! They are all very friendly, encouraging, and supportive. I never feel intimidated or judged when I'm training with them. They all have different backgrounds and skill levels, but we all come together to learn and grow as a team.
Thirdly, the comradery in this place is unmatched. Everyone is like family here. We all push each other to improve and celebrate each other's victories. It's an amazing feeling to be a part of such a tight-knit community.
Lastly, the gym is extremely welcoming to new members who don't want to compete but want to get in shape. I was a bit hesitant to join at first because I didn't have any martial arts experience, but everyone here made me feel right at home. They make sure to modify the workouts for beginners and are always willing to lend a helping hand.
Overall, I highly recommend Nick Tarpein's Martial Arts to anyone who wants to get in shape, compete, learn self-defense, or be part of a fantastic community. I can't wait to see where my journey here takes me!”

“This is an amazing gym. The owner is really a great guy and even better instructor. He'll correct you when you do something wrong or get out of line and he'll praise you for figuring something out. Great group of people in the classes too. This is the spot to go if you want to get into martial arts.”

“If you're looking for a mixed martial arts dojo that has as much grit as Chuck Norris's beard, then look no further. TARPEINS DOJO has got it all. Jiu-jitsu? Check. Karate? Check. Judo? Check. A little bit of that Iowan Muay Thai kickboxing? Double check. I mean, they've got more mixed martial arts than a Jackie Chan movie.
This DOJO is the real deal. The instructors are legit masters of the craft, but with better hair. Isn't that right Joe! They'll teach you moves that make you feel like Bruce Lee, with high-pitched screams included at no extra charge.
The facilities are top-notch. That smell of cleaning solution mixed with blood, sweat, and yesterday's tacos puts a positive charge in the air that gives me more strength than the Man of Steel! The mats are so clean you could eat sushi off them (although I wouldn't recommend it), and the punching bags are tougher than my baby's momma's dad. To top it all off, TARPEINS has got weapons training that would make Rambo jealous. I mean, who knew you could use a nunchuck to open a Gatorade bottle? That takes skill!
But the best part? The other students. They are like the Justice League of martial arts, except they don't wear as much spandex (well, most of them don't). They'll help you perfect your moves, and if you play your cards right, they will even let you spar with them. Start with Jake.
So if you're looking to become a mixed martial arts master, this slice of Quad Cities heaven is the place to be. Just be prepared to get down on some vintage power ballads, work hard, sweat hard, and sometimes even laugh hard. Five stars!”
